Drop Off & Pick-Up Procedures

Barnes Elementary School 2019/2020

*For the safety of students and consistency in procedure, no cars will be allowed in the bus loop before 9:00 am or after 3:00 pm.

*ALL CARS PICKING UP A STUDENT AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR MUST HAVE PICK-UP SIGN GIVEN AT REGISTRATION or Office. Even if your student is a bus rider, keep this colored sign in car for days you may need to come through back car loop. If the person picking up student does not have this sign, you will be asked to show ID, and be cleared through office.

MORNING DROP OFF PROCEDURE:

  • Bus riders will be dropped off in the bus loop in front of the school. (ONLY BUSES, NO CARS)

  • Car riders will be dropped off in the car loop behind the school. Please follow directions for traffic flow mapped on the back of the car rider sign. This is imperative for the safety of students and adults.

  • Students may arrive at 8:30 A.M.  Students eating breakfast will go to the cafeteria.  Other students will go to their lockers (Monday-Friday)

  • We ask that parents not walk their children to their locker or classroom after the first two days of school.

  • Students are dismissed to classrooms at 8:55 with their learning day routine beginning at 9:00. All students not in their classroom at 9:00 must check-in at the office. Please do not drop off students at any other door besides the front door after 9:00 (Pre-K thru 5), this is a safety concern.

  • Please do not park your car in any loop during morning and afternoon schedules. Two buses arrive in the East parking lot, so please do not park at the curb in that area as it blocks buses.

PRE-K

  • AM Car riders should be dropped off in the back of the building and should follow the morning procedure as written above. The same students will be picked up at 11:30 at the East door car loop.

  • PM Car riders should be dropped off at 1:05 on the East side of the building.  Students are tardy at 1:15 and must enter through the front doors with a parent to be checked in.  Do not drop your child off on the East side of the building after 1:15, this is a safety concern. Students will be picked up at 3:35 on the East side of the building. It is imperative that Pre-K parents are in the front of the East car line as those students are dismissed first.

KINDERGARTEN

  • Car riders will be picked up on the East side of the building at 3:45. Never drop your child off on the East side of the building. It is imperative that Pre-K parents are at the front of the East car line as those students are dismissed first. As you get used to this, you may want to adjust your timing of arrival. This is slightly new for us, so thank you in advance for your patience.

AFTERNOON PICK UP PROCEDURE:

  • School will be released in a staggered dismissal in order to provide utmost supervision of students.

  • 3:35 Shuttles, Pre-K

  • 3:45 ALL BUS RIDERS K-5 DISMISSED to their lockers and bus # are dismissed by intercom as buses arrive. Teachers escort bus rider lines to the front of the building, then bus duty teachers escort them to buses. Bus riders will load in the front bus loop.  Shuttle buses will arrive at the neighborhood school in time for transport home.  Check your bus schedule for approximate delivery times for Barnes area students.

  • 3:45 CAR RIDERS AND DAYCARE DISMISSED, escorted by teachers to appropriate locations.

  • Your child will be in the office at 4:00 if you are late picking up. In that event, you will need to park in a space and come inside the office to get them. Please call the office to let them know you will be late.

Students not riding the buses will be walked out the back door (depending upon the weather).  If you park in the back parking lot and want to meet your child, you may pick them outside the North doors from the teacher who is supervising them. You MUST have car sign or ID with you.  You will not be able to enter these doors. If you wait for your child in your automobile in the car loop, they will walk outside to your vehicle. This is preferred in order to keep students safe, with no one walking through loop traffic.
