Reading and Math Report Card Objectives by Quarters

Children will need to demonstrate the following skills at the end of each quarter.

1st Quarter

Language

Identify parts of a book: Front/back cover, title page, author, illustrator

Engages in group reading with understanding and purpose

  1. a) Actively engages in group activities
  2. b) Recognizes common types of literature and texts
  3. c) Asks and answers questions about literature or text

Demonstrates understanding of the organization and basic features of print

Describes (verbally) familiar people, places, things and events

Recognizes letters, color words, number words and/or sight words taught

Math

Count to 25

Count forward from a given number to 25

Count objects to tell “how many”

Identify greater than/less than/equal to for groups of objects

Name and describe 2-D shapes

Represent and interpret information using graphs

 

2nd Quarter

Language

Recognizes and produces rhymes

Counts syllables Creates and writes simple sentences

Speaks audibly and expresses thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly

Recognizes letters, color words, number words and/or sight words taught

Math

Count to 50

Count by 10’s

Write numerals 0 to 20

Model shapes by building/drawing

  

3rd Quarter

Language

Uses and demonstrates comprehension strategies by retelling stories using key details

Able to blend sounds to read words

Able to segment sounds in 3 letter words

Able to give basic information about a topic, text, or event in opinion, explanatory, and narrative pieces

Able to participate in shared research and writing projects

Recognizes letters, color words, number words and/or sight words taught

Math

Count to 75

Compare and contrast attributes of 2D shapes

Compare 2 objects my measurable attributes

Demonstrate positional words

 

4th Quarter

Language

Reads emergent readers with purpose and understanding

Demonstrates command of English grammar conventions when speaking

Demonstrates conventions of print and punctuation when writing

Spells simple words phonetically

Math

Count to 100

Understand place value for 10’s and 1’s in numbers 11 to 20

Add/Subtract word problems within 10

Represent sums and differences up to 10

Decompose numbers up to 10

Fluently add & subtract within 5
