My name is Cate Barr and I am the reading specialist at Barnes Elementary and I've worked in the district for four years I have spent most of my 14 years in education teaching in a first or second grade classroom it was during that time that my passion and desire to learn more about how kids learn to read and why certain kids struggle to read really started to grow I pursued a master's degree in Reading which is what led me here to Barnes I am a reading specialist here and I'm doing exactly what I want to do what I love doing which is helping kids overcome challenges with reading I love many things about teaching I love building a relationship with students that's authentic and I love meeting their families and getting to know them I want students to come into my room and feel comfortable and know that they are loved and that they have an ally to travel this journey with them to support them Mrs. Cate Barr is an incredible professional wonderful addition to our school at Barnes Elementary she is a resource for our teachers in terms of not only just the teaching of reading instruction but also how to say kids in all ways Mrs. Barr serves our our school Community as a positive contribution to our school culture her temperament is calm cool and collected and she does all what's best for kids and cares about our staff cares about the work she does and is really really good at it I find tremendous joy in helping students overcome their struggles I try to look at each student as a vessel of unlocked potential and how can I unlock that how can I help it grow healthy how can I help them be the best that they can be being a teacher in Owasso Public Schools has been and continues to be a tremendous honor I feel privileged to work alongside Educators that are wonderful they strive to be better every day I'm thankful to be in a community that values and supports education and I feel grateful to work in a district where the leadership equips and empowers teachers to best serve students being selected as one of Owasso teachers of the year has just been a great honor I know the quality of Educators that work in this District so to be among the just makes me feel really humbled I think it is also very motivating it makes me want to continue to grow continue to learn and strive every year to just get better and better I am Cate Barr and I am in Owasso Ram!
